The ACS050 utilizes the latest in DSP-based design
architecture to provide software-selectable torque, velocity, or position
mode operation. Sine wave commutation provides smooth torque at low speeds
for demanding motion control requirements found in robotic, direct drive,
and linear motor applications.
Flux Vector Control Is Better
The ACS050's AC servo (flux vector) control algorithm
provides higher dynamic response and improved noise immunity over older
generation servo control techniques. That's because AC flux vector control
uses modern space vector modulation in lieu of older sine-weighted PWM
or two channel, analog multiplier techniques. This state-of-the-art approach
provides a more robust motor controller with lower current harmonics which,
in turn, provides smoother, more efficient motor control.
The new ACS050 with flux vector control is also more cost effective
for motion control applications that employ an external third-party multi-axis controller
card. Fewer control channels are required per installation with the ACS050 since it
eliminates the need to be controlled with two phase-shifted, sine-weighted, analog
channels per axis of control. Only a single analog command channel is required per axis of
control for the ACS050 when commanding either torque or velocity.
